Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

ABOUT KITCHEN, BATH & HOME

What types of remodeling projects do you specialize in?

We specialize in residential kitchen and bathroom remodeling. Because many projects extend beyond those rooms, our team, partners, processes, and experience also equip us to remodel any interior residential space.

How long have you been in business?

Our founder and co-owner, Jesse Johns, has worked in the remodeling industry since 1974. The business evolved under his leadership through several company names before the companies officially merged in 2020 as Kitchen, Bath & Home.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Kitchen, Bath & Home is licensed and insured, and we require all subcontractors to carry appropriate insurance.

PLANNING, DESIGN and PRICING

Do you offer free consultations or estimates?

Yes. Our First Site Walk, or initial visit, is free. During the visit, we:

    • Walk through your existing space.
    • Discuss your goals, proposed changes, and expectations.
    • Introduce the KBH team and explain our process.
    • Share examples of past projects.
    • Provide a preliminary ballpark price based on the visit.

How much will my remodeling project cost?

Project costs vary according to the scope of work and the materials selected. We provide more specific pricing as the design, selections, and project details are developed.

How long will the project take?

The project timeline depends on the scope of work. We establish a more detailed schedule once the project requirements and selections are defined.

A remove-and-replace keeps the basic footprint of the room intact, with appliances, plumbing, and utilities generally staying in their existing locations while old materials and finishes are replaced. A complete remodel involves more significant changes, such as reworking the layout, moving or removing walls, relocating plumbing or electrical, or moving appliances and fixtures.

It’s also important to remember that your remodeling timeline begins well before demolition. From the first Site Walk through final cleaning, there are three main phases:

    1) Planning Process: Approximately 6–10 weeks
From our first visit through design development, material selections, pricing, and completion of the final planning package.

    2) Material Purchasing & Trade Scheduling: Approximately 2–4 weeks
We order materials, coordinate deliveries, and schedule the trade partners needed for your project. Some products may require additional lead time before construction can begin.

    3) Construction: Demo through Final Cleaning
      Kitchen Remove-and-Replace: 10–14 weeks
      Kitchen Complete Remodel: 12–20 weeks
      Primary Bathroom Remove-and-Replace: 8–10 weeks
Primary Bathroom Complete Remodel: 12–16 weeks

These are estimates, not guarantees. Project complexity, material lead times, inspections, unforeseen conditions, and changes made along the way can all affect the schedule. But these ranges should give you a realistic starting point for understanding the time commitment involved.

Can you provide references or examples of past work?

Yes. We gladly provide references upon request, and examples of our completed work are available on our website.

Do you provide design and planning services?

Yes. After the First Site Walk, you will receive a Planning Package Scope of Work and a Design & Planning Package Agreement. Once the agreement is signed, our design services include:
    • Conceptual design
    • Formal permit-ready drawings
    • Material and finish selection and specification

Can you help me select materials and finishes?

Yes. We encourage you to work with our team or an interior designer so your selections complement the designed space. Our industry partners may also provide client discounts and access to trade-only products. We help procure specified models and quantities, verify quality, and coordinate any necessary installation and service.

PROJECT TEAM and CONSTRUCTION

Who will manage my project?

Our in-house project management team oversees each project:

    • Rusty Debetaz, Lead Production Manager: With more than 25 years of industry experience, Rusty develops the scope of work, launches construction, and conducts weekly check-ins to confirm that the work meets expectations.
    • Chris Bradley, Assistant Production Manager: Chris serves as the day-to-day on-site team member, managing the schedule, job site, subcontractors, and homeowner expectations.

Do you use employees or subcontractors?

We use a combination of in house labor and trusted subcontractors. Our three-member Field Team handles specific in-house tasks. We engage licensed professionals for plumbing, electrical, tile, flooring, HVAC, fabrication, and glass work. Every subcontractor is vetted, insured and highly recommended.

Will you handle permits and inspections?

Yes. We prepare and submit the required permit documentation, coordinate inspections with the city, and attend all inspections.

What does your remodeling process look like?

Our process moves from the initial site walk through planning and design, detailed scope writing and pricing, pre-construction preparation, construction, regular communication, and project completion. At each stage, we clarify expectations and next steps.

How will you protect my home during construction?

During the pre-construction meeting, we complete a pad-and-protect checklist to identify everything needed to keep your home clean, safe, and livable. On the first day of construction, our in-house Field Team installs the protection. We typically use a zip-wall system to encapsulate the work zone to minimize dust as well as a hardi-board floor protection for the duration of the project. A production manager reviews it before demolition begins.

Can I remain in my home during the remodel?

Yes, although special arrangements may be needed, particularly during a kitchen or bathroom remodel. A temporary kitchen can often be set up in a laundry room or another suitable area. During a bathroom remodel, you will need access to another bathroom, and depending on the project’s extent, alternate sleeping arrangements within the home may also be necessary.

CHANGES, COMMUNICATION and DELAYS

How do you handle changes to the original project scope?

The process depends on when the change is requested:

    • Before construction: We revise the Scope of Work, document any pricing changes, and obtain your approval.
    • During construction: The Scope of Work includes a contingency allowance for unforeseen conditions or smaller additions, such as discovering a concealed electrical panel or adding recessed lights to an adjoining room.
    • Beyond the original scope: We determine whether the work should be handled through a change order, an add-on, or a separate project.
In every case, we explain the recommended next steps, timing, and cost implications so you understand how the change will be handled.

How often will I receive project updates?

You will receive project updates as often as you would like. A project manager is typically on site daily or nearly every day and is available by text, phone, and email. They keep you informed about progress, changes, and issues and check in on how the remodeling experience is going for you. At minimum, you will receive weekly updates and communication from our project management team, though we often are in contact with you more frequently throughout the process.

How do you handle problems or delays during construction?

Unexpected conditions, severe weather, delivery disruptions, or subcontractor availability can affect a construction schedule. When an issue arises, we assess it, explain the impact, and work with you and the appropriate industry partners to resolve it as quickly and professionally as possible.

PAYMENTS and WARRANTIES

What payment schedule do you require?

Payment begins with the Design & Planning Package Agreement. If you proceed with the Contract Package, the next payment is a material paymet for 100% of all purchased products, and a 50% deposit toward cabinets, countertops, and glass.

After that, you will receive itemized weekly invoices by email with supporting documentation. Our transparent invoicing includes relevant timesheets and receipts, and we welcome questions at any time.

What warranties do you provide?

Kitchen, Bath & Home provides a two-year warranty on our work and the work performed by our subcontractors. Manufacturer and material warranties vary by provider. We can help determine whether a product is covered and guide you through the steps needed to resolve an issue.
