Shylo grew up at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada. In her early 20’s, before the age of HGTV, she loved watching a home improvement show called “Hometime”. She was completely fascinated by the processes and layers of construction. She found herself in love with even the smell of fresh sawdust, and so she began to admit this was her passion. She took her first step into the industry when she enrolled in Architectural Drafting and Interior Design courses. Shylo then moved to the Cayman Islands and in 1998, Shylo was hired by a local kitchen and bath showroom as their Design Assistant. About six months in, the lead designer unexpectedly left the company. Shylo had no choice but to sink or swim, so she rapidly adjusted to selling and designing on her own. Her ambition and drive as a self-starter propelled her forward. In 2000, Shylo moved to Dallas, Texas with her husband. In 2004, she worked as a Territory Representative for the largest US cabinet manufacturer, where she learned more about the intricacies of cabinetry. In 2006, she returned to working directly with clients and her projects grew in size and complexity with each passing year. At Kitchen, Bath and Home, Shylo interviews clients to clarify their goals, provides insight into product and material selections, and creates CAD drawings. She walks side-by-side with clients throughout the whole process – the scary and the fun! Even in comparison to magazine publishments or awards, Shylo says, “the best achievement is when a client is just beaming because their new space exceeds what they even imagined. That’s the one achievement I can feel all the way to my toes.” At her leisure, Shylo loves cooking for others, trying new techniques and pushing unexpected healthy ingredients to new places. Truly, kitchens and gardens are her favorite places to be.
